Most people have their favorite eateries. Some like the high-end steakhouses. Others go for great seafood or sushi bars. I seldom eat IN restaurants, unless it’s Mother’s Day and the kids take me out. And while I like a good juicy steak or well-prepared seafood, I’m an end-of-the-day-on-the-way-home carryout person and neither of those foods do well as carryout.
When the west side of Powell expanded after the extension of Sawmill Parkway, two local companies opened side by side. It’s like a little piece of heaven … one stop, a gazillion calories!
City Barbeque has the most luscious pulled pork sandwiches, about 3″ high, which come with a succulent rich brown sauce on the side. They also have ribs, chicken, and pulled beef brisket. For Thanksgiving and Christmas, they take limited orders for turkey and hams. While their turkey is the best I’ve ever had, my preference is the mouth-watering ham. For the past few years, I’ve been giving the holiday gift cards to my local clients who purchased a home during the year. I enjoy providing the staple for their first holiday meal in their new home, and they seem to really appreciate it.
Graeter’s is an ice cream shop that makes their yummy desert in their Upper Arlington store. I don’t even want to know how many calories there are per lick. All I know is that their ice cream is WONDERFUL! My favorite is the raspberry chocolate chip. “Chip” is hardly an accurate word as one thinks of the tiny little chips such as are used in cookies. Graeter’s uses big chunks of smooth as silk chocolate – bigger than the little Halloween candy bars we buy. Have them put the dip in one of their homemade waffle cones and it’s decadent.
So, if you happen to be in central Ohio, be sure you go to the corner of Powell Rd and Sawmill Parkway for a taste of heaven. If you see the WEENR mobile there, be sure to say ‘hi”.
