Americans Still Exercising 2nd Amendment Rights

I’ve updated the NCIS Background Checks charts for June 2016 (see far right side bar). The National Checks are up 32% YTD, while Ohio is up 35% YTD.

As I was reviewing the YTD numbers for other states, I noticed some rather interesting results:

  • For Midwest states: Ohio’s YTD total is 442,360. Michigan’s YTD total is 303,537. But Indiana’s YTD total is 945,071! Those “quiet” Hoosiers are getting armed.
  • California is a well-known anti-gun state with even greater restrictions just signed by Gov Brown. Even so, there were 1,147,934 checks done so far this year. By comparison, Texas only has had 859,659.
  • The real surprise was Kentucky. 1,878,787 background checks have been done so far this year!

It should be noted that Background Checks are done when a person buys a gun but, depending on state laws, also when they apply for a concealed carry permit.

It’s been said that Obama has been the best gun salesman EVER! It appears he’s still doing a good job.

Ohio’s Crime Rate Lower Than Nat’l Average

Columbus’ Business First had a link to a report on Safe Places to Live in Ohio. Although none of Central Ohio’s communities made the Top 20, three were between 20-25. Powell was ranked 21, Marysville ranked 23 and Dublin ranked 25. Upper Arlington ranked 31.

“In terms of feeling secure, Ohio’s crime rate is significantly lower than the national average. Between 2013 and 2014, both violent and property crime rates declined with some of the steepest drops occurring in the robbery and burglary categories.”

Glock 19 Gen 4The article said that Ohio’s Crime Rate is significantly lower than the National Average. Although not mentioned in the article, I wonder if Ohio’s open-carry law and the popularity of concealed carry licenses is due somewhat to lower crime rates.

2016 Election Just Got Really Critical

US-ConstitutionLast weekend the importance of the 2016 election reached critical status with the sudden death of Justice Scalia. His staunch belief that the Constitution should be interpreted exactly as it was written and according to life Justice Scaliaas it was when the Constitution was written. He did not believe the Constitution was a “living breathing” document subject to interpretation according to current trends as the liberal Justices believe.

The example he used to illustrate this difference was whether the electric chair was cruel and unusual punishment. At the time the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution, hanging was customarily used for death. Thus the electric chair is less cruel than hanging.

Although the Supreme Court SHOULD BE non-partisan, we all know that is not the case. Before Justice Scalia’s death, many decisions were split 5-4, with 5 Conservatives and 4 Liberals. When Presidents are confronted with nominating a new Justice, due to a death or retirement, they try to select one that matches their own political views. No doubt, Obama is an extreme leftist. So he will try nominate a similar thinking Justice on the Court. The Senate has the final say as to whether to consider or appoint Obama’s nomination. Conservatives are adamant that the Senate does not accept a liberal Justice. We’ll see whether they hold firm or cave as they have to other Obama leftwing attempts.

What’s at stake? Mainly the 1st and 2nd Amendments. With 5 liberals on the Court, they could minimize or eliminate religious freedom AND they could eliminate the 2nd Amendment which removes our right to own guns. If you consider all the things liberals would really like America to be like, you can understand why people say America will no longer be America if a liberal is put on the Court.

Ted Cruz is the strongest presidential candidate on knowledge of the Constitution. He memorized it as a young teen and as argued cases before the Supreme Court and won them all. Last night Ted Cruz spoke at Conservative Review’s Convention in South Carolina. He explains this Constitution issue and the importance of selecting a new Justice much better than I can. Yes, it’s a campaign speech but the main topic is the Constitution and worth viewing. This video is of that speech. I recommend viewing it if you want to understand this issue and how YOUR LIFE might be impacted by voting for the wrong person for President.

Record NCIS Background Checks for January

Obama’s not going to be happy. January NCIS Background Checks hit another monthly record. With 2,545,802 checks for the month, it was the highest January number since checks began in 1998. The 2nd highest January was in 2013 – right after Obama was elected for a second term.

Ohio’s number of background checks mirrored the National growth. Ohio’s January number of 76,218 was a 60% increase over 2015.

A number of Sheriff’s – including 3 in Ohio – have recommended citizens get a gun and a concealed carry license to protect themselves since it may take too long for law enforcement to get there. The massacres in San Bernardino were over in only 5 minutes! As someone said, “I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy!”

Practice, Practice, Practice!

I hadn’t been to the shooting range for 3 weeks so decided I’d better practice. Besides it was a dreary afternoon so might as well spend it doing something fun. I practiced putting into play some new things I learned during the 8-hour CCW class. Changed my stance to the defense mode and kept both eyes open. Our instructor told us to aim for center mass (versus the bullseye as in target shooting) and to line up the end of the gun to the center mass area with BOTH eyes. This allows you to keep peripheral vision during a stress event.

I continue to be amazed at the number of “senior” women who are learning how to shoot. Both my “Beginner’s Handgun” and “Concealed Carry” classes (which were full) had half the class with women over 60. It’s a sign of the times!!

October NCIS background checks up 23%

EDIT: See Year-End Update Article

The October numbers have been released for NCIS Firearm Background Checks and the number of checks for the month are up 23% vs 2014! Obama recently said in an interview that one of his goals before he leaves office is to get rid of guns. Both he and Hillary would like full gun confiscation as Australia did. Doubt that will be achieved since it goes against our Constitution’s 2nd Amendment. Some people are saying it would result in another Civil War. There’s simply too many gun owners!

The following chart shows Annual NCIS background checks. The 2015 data is YTD October. Projections are that 2015 will exceed the previous high in 2013. (Red equals Obama’s tenure.)

Annual NCIS Background Checks

This chart shows NCIS background checks by month for 2015 vs 2014. The total for Oct 2014 was 1,603,469 versus 1,976,759 in 2015 for a 23% increase.
