America’s Independence Day

Today we celebrate Independence Day on July 4th. I am so glad I live in this great country. No other country on earth is like America. My ancestors moved here in the mid-late 1600s from Germany and Ireland. I’m so glad they did. One of my great grandfathers was a Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War. I had relatives that served in WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam. I was born during WWII. Although my parents lived in rural Ohio, my father went to work in an airplane plant in Detroit, coming home every couple weekends. My sister, who was 18 when I was born, worked in a factory nearby making military parts – a real Rosie-the-riviter. Her boyfriend (and eventual husband) was serving in the Navy in the Philippines. I grew up going to the local parades which had a strong military influence. At school we always said the Pledge of Allegiance first thing before class began. I consider myself a #PROUDAMERICAN.

The Flag flies all year on my house as it does on several of my neighbors’ homes. However, on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veteran’s Day I display many small flags to show my devotion to my country. I’m so grateful that I have the FREEDOM to do that! #MAGA

The National Anthem explained …

Currently the NFL is disrespecting the American Flag and the National Anthem. Someone posted this YouTube video on Twitter with a suggestion that the football players should be reminded why we revere the Flag and memorialize all the Americans who have died to protect the Freedoms we enjoy – unlike any other country.

Those of us who are older studied American History in high school. I’m not sure they’re teaching it anymore. This vid is a good refresher course for us and a good lesson for younger people. It reminds us why we stand for the National Anthem and put our right hand over our heart.

One quote in the video is from George Washington. I think it is appropriate given what the overpaid football players are doing.

“The thing that sets the American Christian apart from all other people in the World is he will die on his feet before he’ll live on his knees.”

Most Patriots will get misty eyes as they watch the video. It makes us proud of this GREAT COUNTRY. If you’re not affected by the vid perhaps you might find another country more to your liking. As we use to say Love It or Leave It!

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

What’s Happening to Patriotism?

I’m really bothered about an unpatriotic trend against our Flag, Old Glory. The Pledge of Allegiance has already been decimated. This week the UC Irvine campus has a small group of students who want the American Flag removed because it might offend students from other countries. I’ll withhold my thoughts on that!!!!!

Last weekend, the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s march across the Selma bridge was televised. On Twitter, a number of people spotted an important difference to MLK’s march to this year’s march. Two photos were tweeted and retweeted as they quickly spread throughout the Twittersphere.

Here are the two photos. Can you spot what the difference is that riled up Tweeps???
