Trump Rally in Lewis Center

I finally checked off a Bucket List item. Saturday I got to see a U.S. President! President Trump came to a local school a few miles from my home. So, of course, I had to go! One of my granddaughters joined me. It was a hot day with heat index in low 90s.

The doors were to open at 3:30 with the President appearing at 6:30. We arrived at 11:00 to begin standing in the queue. A gal in front of us counted the number of people in front of us. She counted 120. (Today I read in a local paper that officials estimated 11,000 were ultimately in line.) We were in the line until sometime around 3:30 when we FINALLY got into the cool school after going through the TSA security check! The heat was brutal!

This media photo shows the extent of the line later in the afternoon. We were on the opposite side of the building so had no idea the line was this long.

During the 4-1/2 hours in line we shared fun conversation, umbrellas for shade, and eventually ice packs which quickly melted. Two gals drove over from Dayton. Another gal drove from New Holland. A senior couple were from Westerville. And two early 20s boys drove down from Mansfield. All were excited to be at a “TRUMP RALLY”!

Fun Pic with Prez TrumpThere were gobs of vendors selling #MAGA hats, Trump shirts, Trump buttons, and of course #CNNsucks shirts and buttons. There was a life-size cardboard Trump that we could take a photo with. Of course, local politicians were there to ‘be seen’ and hopefully gain some support for their campaigns.

Once we passed the TSA check, we went into the gym to pick our spot. There are people that direct you where to stand or sit. We chose to sit. I’ve stood at a rally before and know that I’m too short to see over taller people holding their cameras in the air. We got great seats up the bleachers but directly across from the podium. IT WAS GOOD TO SIT!

A neighbor texted me that he saw me on TV. A local station panned the audience then zoomed in on the area where we sat.

Then we waited …….. As the gym filled up the temperature increased as the crowd increased. It wasn’t as bad as outside but it eventually got pretty miserable. (I later chatted with a neighbor who is a fireman/EMT and he said there were between 20-30 emergency runs for people.) To cap it off, the President’s plane was late so he didn’t arrive until 7:15.

The whole day was quite an experience. Lots of nice, polite, friendly folks having a great time waiting to see our President. Aside from seeing the President in person, I also saw Rep Jim Jordan – who got two standing O’s; Rep Jim Renacci (running for Senate); AG Mike Dewine (running for Gov); and even Press Secy Sarah Sanders! One final testament to Conservative-minded people was that we weren’t allowed to take our shade umbrellas in the school so everybody just dropped them in a spot on the ground. I thought I’d have to buy a new one. When we left the event, all our umbrellas were still in the pile. No one had stole them! I was impressed. #OhioProud

The People’s President

I’ve noticed something about President Trump when he is with “regular people“. They seem to be completely at ease with hugging or touching him. That’s something we don’t often see with our presidents although Bush 43 seemed to get hugs on certain occasions. I’m sure in person President Trump must be a formidable presence when he walks into a room. Not only is he tall but he oozes power. One would think that would deter a feeling of closeness with him. However, I’ve heard people say that in person he’s very compelling, making people feel as if he’s truly interested in them. I suspect that was a major reason he was elected. He was “one of us”, using the kind of language we use. Hillary wasn’t capable of connecting with ordinary people in that way.

Recently President Trump held a bill-signing ceremony for the RIGHT-TO-TRY bill. This will give terminally ill people the option to try treatments that have not yet been approved by the FDA. At that ceremony was an adorable little boy with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. His actions during the bill signing were absolutely precious as he attempted to get a hug from the President.

Trump with grieving MomDays earlier, President Trump was speaking at the Annual National Peace Officer’s memorial service. During his recognition of an NYPD slain officer, Miosotis Familia, he invited the family to come to the podium. The touching image came when the officer’s Mother hugged the President as he held her hand while still speaking. Such a tender moment.

The President seems ever aware of the people near his “entourage” but not a part of it. In this video he being directed to his car but instead took a brief time to greet the law enforcement officers providing security. To this President, they aren’t just fixtures but REAL people who perform an important job AND who he wants to thank. Imagine how special that made them feel!

And of course, we all remember when the President stopped to retrieve a Marine One guard’s hat that had been blown off by strong winds. Even though the hat blew away again, in true Marine fashion, the guard never moved or cracked a smile.

The next time there is one of the President’s famous rallies, watch how people react to him. How they speak out during his speech, how they try to touch him, and how often they shout out “we love you”. The Democrats are at a loss to understand what the rest of America knows and loves.

No Blue Wave in Ohio

Political Party logos
The Democrats have been saying they are going to have a BLUE WAVE in Nov 2018. Meaning they believe they will take over control of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Their plans are that IF they do that, they will Impeach President Trump and kill President Trump’s tax cuts in order to RAISE OUR TAXES! A few months ago in generic ballot polls, it appeared they might be successful. They had a substantial lead over a generic Republican. However, with all of President Trump’s successes, that lead is now down to only 3 points. Obviously the American voter isn’t as dumb as the Democrats think we are.

The results of Ohio’s recent primary indicates there is no BLUE WAVE in Ohio. I heard it reported that around 200,000 more GOP voters went to the polls than Democrat voters.

In the race for Ohio Governor there were 827,039 GOP votes vs only 679,738 Democrat votes. That’s 21.6% more GOP votes. Mike DeWine (R) received 17% more votes – 494,766 votes than Richard Cordray’s (D) 423,264. Another big race was for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sherrod Brown (D). Brown is a far left-wing Dem leaning toward Bernie Sanders Socialism. In November, Brown will be challenged by Rep Jim Renacci (R) who achieved 360,475 votes of the total 760,808 cast by GOP voters.

If this enthusiasm continues until November, Ohio is apt to maintain a GOP Governor and pick up a U.S. Senate seat. We really need Renacci to win to help President Trump implement more of his programs.

A Look Back at 2017

2017 was an interesting year. Mostly it was a good year, but there were a few ‘bad’ things. I’ll start with the bad first. Both my home and my Jeep are now 20 years old, so it’s been a year of rather costly maintenance on both. Water heater, large maple tree removed, fence repair, exterior trim painting, new fridge, some new faucets, etc. Typical homeowner expenses.

The good news is Murph is 13 yrs old and I’m grateful to still have him. He’s a little deaf and moves more slowly but he still has spirit and is unbelievably spoiled. Another granddaughter got married so my family increased by ONE. I still have great neighbors who sometimes help me with projects or scold me when they see me doing something they think I shouldn’t – like climbing ladders! And of course, I’m so thankful for my loving family!

I’m also glad we have a President who is working for the people and America. He’s eliminated many, many regulations that made it difficult and costly for businesses. He’s working to secure our borders and deporting illegals who commit crimes. ISIS has almost been decimated. He’s installed dozens of Constitutional Judges to rule based on law, not progressive activism. Starting in 2018 we’ll get tax cuts for Americans and Corporations which will infuse money into the economy to grow it. Anyone with a 401K or pension fund benefitted from the skyrocketing stock market. Best of all is a direction to consider America First rather than globalism and the New World Order concept. Now if Obama and Hillary would just go away, life would be good.

I’m excited about 2018 and what new exciting things it will bring.
